Singapore has again been named as the best city in Asia to hold meetings and conventions.

Findings released by the Union of International Associations show that Singapore came in as the top international meeting city for the eighth year running.

In another global ranking by the International Congress and Convention Association based on meetings held last year, Singapore was top in the Asia Pacific for the 13th consecutive year.

"While we are humbled that Singapore remains the Asian destination of choice for event owners, we will continue to enhance our vibrant Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conventions and Exhibitions (Mice) ecosystem further for a more remarkable experience for business visitors," Ms Neeta Lachmandas, assistant chief executive of business development of the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), said yesterday.

As a testament to the strength of the industry, STB cited two high-level events that will be held in Singapore - the International Council of Nurses Conference in 2019; and the International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine (IUPESM) World Congress for Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering in 2021.

The two events are each tipped to attract a crowd of about 3,000 overseas attendees, made up of professionals from the respective industries.

Said Professor Herbert F. Voigt, IUPESM's immediate past president: "With Singapore's strategic location in the heart of the region, our commitment towards reaching out to developing countries in advancing the physical and engineering sciences in medicine will be greatly enhanced."
